Mature students are very welcome on all courses in Ó Fiaich Institute of Further Education and the number of mature students is rising steadily.
Many mature students are eligible for the VTOS scheme (Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme). This is available to people over 21 years of age who have been unemployed or receiving other social welfare benefits for more than 6 months. It entitles eligible students to attend a further education course while still retaining their full Social Welfare payments and any secondary benefits such as fuel allowance or rent or mortgage interest supplements. Books, class materials and examination fees are also paid for.
Further information is available from local adult education officers.
